Catania is the second largest city in Sicily. This city of lava rock, which lies on the slopes of Mt Etna, is particularly fascinating. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit it for a few hours. There are many interesting artistic and cultural spots that tourists can visit: Castello Ursino, Piazza del Duomo, with its cathedral and “U Liotru”, an obelisk with a black elephant that is the city’s symbol. There is also the Roman theatre, the charming Via Crociferi, the Bendettini monastery, the elegant Teatro Bellini and the beautiful Villa Bellini.
When visiting Catania, one must visit the most famous food market in Sicily, “A Piscaria”, the fish market that charms tourists daily with its scents, colours and folklore.
The tour then continues with a visit to the Cyclops Riviera, a coastline area in eastern Sicily between Catania and Acireale, where there are landscapes that have been made famous through literature and the cinema; in fact, some passages of Homer’s Ulysses, Giovanni Verga’s
“I Malavoglia” and the film “La Terra Trema” by Luchino Visconti” took place here.
