One of the most suggestive stops on a trip to discover the east Sicily is certainly a visit to the volcano.
Mt Etna, declared a UNESCO world heritage, is not only the highest peak in Sicily, but also the highest active volcano in Europe (3,340 meters). “A muntagna”, as the inhabitants of the towns along its slopes call it, offers tourists a “one of its kind” experience, not only for the flora and fauna found there, but also for the breathtaking views.
We will travel through small and fascinating villages to arrive at the tourist area at 1,800 metres above sea level, where we can take a walk or have refreshments at the bar. After admiring the trees close-up, the old lava flows, the effects of recent eruptions, the tour will take you to Taormina, the Pearl of the Mediterranean.
Taormina is a well-known tourist centre is Sicily, a place of infinite beauty. The city is located in a high position, overlooking the bay of Giardini Naxos, from which you can admire a unique panorama: the sea, the sky and the volcano, all at once. But besides its splendid views Taormina has one of the most suggestive, historical monuments, the Greek-Roman theatre.
